Bonds over Blood
Bonds over Blood
The societies and cultures of Faunus support a biodiversity that goes well beyond half-elves and half-orcs. In the modern day with the expansion of major trade culture between regions and after the rippling effects of the Convergence, isolated heritages are a long forgotten past. Everyone is some form of mixed race with some being able to track their exact family trees and others just vaguely knowing their homology. Because of this residents of the world come in all shapes, colors, sizes and abilities. And whether someone is identifiably a certain mix or a more homogenous blend of bloodlines, all are seen as equal from a social spectrum.
While tensions still exist, the idea of biological, social or moral superiority based on race does not. Additionally, as the world shed the concept of isolated bloodlines for something grander, the concepts of gender also became more fluid. It is extremely common to use multiple sets of pronouns or prefer neutral pronouns. In Faunus flexible identities or exploring identities are encouraged.
Player Characters
There are five recognized groupings of heritage in the Folklore and Folly setting. Mortal, Fey, Monster, Fiend, and Divine. Playable races in this setting are sorted and listed below. Some races have had setting specific alterations. Those with short alterations will be listed below the race. Those with major alterations will link to a separate page.
Since characters have default mixed heritage in this setting, players may build their characters based off only one race or as a combination of two. If a character is built off only a singular race they will be referred to as 'mixed' within game. If you'd like to have two races when you build your character, you can look at this page for help on how to go about it. Or ask your Dungeon Master for help.
These are the accepted races in this setting. Any race with a lock symbol next to it indicates that those races are currently locked and not openly playable. In order to play a locked race you will need to discuss it with the Dungeon Master before building the character.
Mortal Bloodlines:
Impression
Adaptable and open, Mortal bloodlines are the descendants of human ancestors. Unlike the other groups, these bloodlines do not share a common affiliation with a certain type of magic, monster or plane. But their adaptability and ability to seemingly find connection with any creature makes them highly admired. As such, those with predominantly mortal bloodlines will often be looked towards as mediators or religious figures. Many believe the mortal lines adaptability is a reflection of the Highest Power.

Coming in all shapes and sizes, Fey bloodlines have the innate ability to sense other Fey blooded individuals and even the Court their ancestor's served. If you have fey blood you might be from either Living Wilds in Aquila or have family originally from FakeEurpoe.

Including magic from different Planes of Existence. Those who carry their heritage may find themselves drawn to tight-knit communities where their strength or unique magics will be heavily relied on in many ways. If you have this heritage, you might be a transplant from or have family in the Korvis empire. Steeped in tradition and history, Korvis has the highest concentration of citizens with this heritage and a heavier understanding on natural magics.

Other:
Automatons
After the advent and introduction of the Lagowick Demon created by Aluana Shobi, many have made attempts to re-create her famous automaton. But results remain inconsistent working from her notes. Though many have come forth claiming to have made an independent automaton, at current all have been disproven. The race to find her lost work remains a heated discussion, as many hope its discovery would reveal the secret of its inner workings.
