Years

The dating system follows this format. (Empress) - (Year since reign)

Typically, this is done for the current reigning empress. Exceptional empresses have their reign denote a new era. There have only been two.

Mokuren - XXXX OR Moku - XXXX The Mokuren Imperial Calendar is the standard as it marks the years since Hina Mokuren I's reign and the beginning of written history on Nyappon.

Akiwa - XX The Akiwa Imperial calendar is a recent standard as it marks the destruction of the Nyappon Corporate Republic that had ruthlessly exploited the Nyapponese people for centuries.

On certain pages like Timeline of Nyappon History, you will see, for example, Akiwa-15/XXXX IC

On the left is the Nyappon imperial calendar, on the right is the Gregorian calendar (the one we use IRL).

Quarters

These years are divided into quarters based on a grain harvest calendar.

  • Ayame-ki (91 days; Q1): Named for empress Ayame Mokuren, who unified Nyappon. Marked by nice weather.
  • Shizu-me (91 days; Q2): Said to be named for Hina Mokuren I childhood friend, who was quite hotheaded. True name origin unknown. Very hot weather.
  • Higan-me (90 days; Q3): Historically, in ancient times when commanders would attempt a decisive blow before the snow sets in. The result is the quarter of death where most ancient war deaths occurred.
  • Eiri-me (89 days; Q4): Name after the moon goddess Eiri no Tsukihime, the quarter where the nights are long and the moon is most present
