Attributes, Skills, & Leveling

Attributes, Skills, & Leveling

Overview

the player and gnomes will have attributes and skills, with skills deriving from attributes. Attributes will be a set list of 8 typical RPG attributes, (strength, agility, constitution, etc.) with an extensive list of skills related specifically to any action that can be taken.

for example, a woodcutting skill that effects the speed with which one can cut down trees, and the speed at which it increases is tied to Strength.

Perks

One idea is to have perks that automatically trigger when you reach certain skill levels. in the woodcutting example, maybe at level 5 you get a perk that is a % chance to collect 2 pieces of wood instead of one. Maybe sometimes this is a choice between two perks to give the player more agency.

Leveling

Skills automatically increase with use of the skill, and happens more or less effectively depending on the level of its related attribute. We pick a number to be average, anything above or below this number will increase or decrease the skill experience gain.

For example if carpentry is governed by strength, and average is 50, a strength of 75 would result in a 25% increase of skill acquisition (exact numbers subject to change)

after a certain number of skill increases, the level of the character will increase, which will allow the player to increase an attribute.
