Spiral Civilization

The island city-state was founded with no evidence of other souls to share the landmass with, until recently archaeologists discovered a well-preserved ancient civilization under the volcanic ash. Unfortunately, it's all under the existing city. Oddly enough, the civilization seemed to have strange traits before they perished. There were spirals carved into all of the walls.
